Vocations
“Through my vows, I want to love You with a perfect love;
and I desire to give myself completely to Your service.”
~ Blessed Josaphata Hordashevska
Your Call
“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.” (Jr 29:11)
God created each of us with His purpose in mind. That purpose, that call, that vocation, which He had in mind for us before we ever were, is where we will be happiest, because it conforms to His deepest desire for us. For some it may be marriage, for others the single life and for still others it is the religious life. Each state is graced.
To find God’s will for us, we must listen within our heart and pray earnestly for guidance from God. Sharing your desires with someone who knows you well, or with a priest or Sister in whom you are able to confide, may help you to discern your call.
There are signs that may help you decide:
- You are longing for something more in life.
- You may desire a simpler lifestyle.
- You feel drawn to and loved by God.
- You may be strongly drawn to prayer or participation in Liturgy.
- You would like to share your life with others who are also committed to making a difference in the world by following Jesus.
These may be signs you are experiencing a call to religious life.
We invite you spend time in prayer. Allow yourself to listen within your heart for God’s guidance. Feel free to contact one of our Sisters, who can provide you with direction to discern your call.

Prayer for Discernment
Lord, send into the fields the workers who will achieve the harvest of tomorrow and prove their love, not counting moments, years, unless to note the joy of service for others. Grant me, who have so many opportunities, the vision of those tomorrows that depend on the response I make today. Help me to hear the gentle call of Jesus: “Come, follow me.”
Heavenly Father, I love You. Thank you for calling me to be a Christian. Send your Spirit into my heart to teach and guide me. Help me to know in what state of life You want me to serve you and your people. Give me the strength I need to overcome all difficulties and follow your will. I ask this in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
